Funeral services for Dorothy L. Ballhagen were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in New Hartford with Pastor Paul McDowell officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford.

Dorothy, 81, of New Hartford, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

Dorothy was born on Feb. 14, 1920, in Rockwell City, Iowa, the daughter of James L. and Lucile V. Hayes Rogers. She graduated from New Hartford High School in 1938. She married Wayne W. Ballhagen on Aug. 6, 1939, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Wayne passed away in 1991. Dorothy enjoyed stamp collecting and researching her family's genealogy. She was a past 4-H leader in the New Hartford area. She had numerous pen pals that she wrote to over the years, with some from Hawaii and Europe. One thing Dorothy loved to do was travel.

She and Wayne loved to go to their cabin in Wisconsin, and also wintered in Frostproof, Florida. She had attended the Emmanuel Baptist Fellowship Church in Frostproof and was also a member of the Frostproof Tourist Club. She was a member of Keenagers which was a traveling group in Frostproof.

Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses Marlys and Don Anderson of Waterloo; Jerry and June Ballhagen of New Hartford; Gordy and Delores Ballhagen of New Hartford; Duane and Pat Ballhagen of W. Frankfort, Ill., and Beverly and Mike Luck of New Hartford; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters and their spouses, Edna and Lester Truex and Betty and Bill Grove, all of New Hartford.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her step-mother Elta Rogers.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or to the family.

Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock was in charge of arrangements.
