PARKERSBURG - Herbert Johnson, 83, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Dec. 10, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Butler County, son of George and Flossie Behrends Johnson. He married Viola Harriet Meester Aug. 24, 1950, at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland.

He attended rural country school and worked on the family farm near Butler Center for many years with his father. Mr. Johnson raised crops, livestock, hogs, chickens and milked, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.

Survived by: his wife; four children, LuRae Johnson of Wellsburg, LuDean Johnson of Aplington, Karen (Wayne) Meister of Eldora and Vernon (Lynda) Johnson of Wellsburg; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; six brothers, Harry (Hannah) Johnson of Allison, Stauffer (Bendina) Johnson of Parkersburg, Fred (Christina) Johnson of Clarksville, Lawrence (Doris) Johnson of Allison, Alfred (Adeline) Johnson of Allison and Vern Johnson of Hampton; and two sisters, Mildred Johnson of Parkersburg and Frances Johnson of Clarksville.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Katie Eilders; and three brothers, Everett, John and George Johnson.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, with burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, both in rural Holland.

Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
