Gerald E. Viet, 80, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away November 15, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

He was born October 14, 1930, in Franklin County, Iowa, to Peter and Arlene (Hopkes) Viet.

Gerald attended schools in Hansell. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Pfaltzgraff on April 18, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Gerald was a farmer and also worked for Chamberlains Manufacturing and for United Hydraulics in Hampton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Gerald is survived by his wife Kathryn Viet of Dumont, son DeWayne (Carole) Viet of Dumont, son Darrell Viet of Decorah, grandchildren Sheila (Gary) Ackerson of Dumont, Tara (Brad) Ufford of Dumont, Dustin (Monica) Viet of Kansas City, Darius (Kari) Viet of Kansas City, Dillon Viet of Kansas City, Danecia Viet of Kansas City, great grandchildren Clay, Keely, Triston, Lexi, Dominic, Makaylin and Davin, brother Galen Viet of Hampton, brother Ronald (Bev) Viet of Dumont and sister Sharon Uhlenhopp of Hansell.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Arlene Viet.

Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery.
