Evelyn Kluiter, 88, of Shell Rock, Iowa passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Evelyn Lucille Kluiter was born on November 10, 1921, the daughter of Lester and Lazetta (Renning) Lahr in Shell Rock, Iowa.

She moved to Minnesota as a young girl for a couple of years and later to Canton, Wisconsin where she attended country school up thru the eighth grade. Her family moved back to Iowa in 1936 where she worked at home and for other people. On September 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to Jerry A. Kluiter in Dumont, Iowa. The couple made their home near Shell Rock where they farmed and in 1965, they moved into Shell Rock. Evelyn was saved in February of 1949 and baptized in July of 1949. In 1968, Evelyn started working part time at the Shell Rock Nursing Home and later went full time as an aide and later in the kitchen until 1982.

Survivors are her three sons, Don (Sharon) Kluiter of Shell Rock, Iowa, Larry (Linda) Kluiter of Parkersburg, Iowa and Dale (Kay) Kluiter of Readlyn, Iowa; daughter, Marianne (Emmett) Meissen of New Hampton, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 8 great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorann Hansen of Cassville, Missouri and Marian Schmitz of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and by two brothers, Robert Lahr of Clarksville, Iowa and James (JoAnn) Lahr of Shell Rock, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry A. Kluiter on April 30, 1984; grandson, Brett D. Kluiter on October 22, 2008.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 10:30 am at the Hitesville Gospel Hall in rural Kesley, Iowa.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock, Iowa.

Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock, Iowa and also an hour prior to services at the Gospel Hall.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
