Leo H. Rewerts 83, of 27691 290th Street, Parkersburg, Iowa, died on Thursday evening, August 30, 2007, at his home of natural causes.

Leo was born on March 24, 1924, 2 ½ miles south of New Hartford, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Dick and Dora (Claussen) Rewerts. Leo attended rural country school in Grundy and Butler Counties. Following his schooling, Leo helped on the farm, worked at Rath Packing Company and John Deere Tractor Works. On June 8, 1946, Leo was united in marriage to Shirley Jones at the New Hartford United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in New Hartford. Leo then went to work for the Sam Annis L.P. Gas Company in Waterloo as a truck driver for a total of 39 years. Shirley died on November 15, 1987 and on September 18, 1999, Leo was united in marriage to Mildred (Abbas) Oler at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg. The couple made their home in rural Parkersburg.

Leo was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Hartford. Leo enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, watching Westerns on television, and taking trips in the fall with his family to the Apple Orchards in Wisconsin, and antique tractors (especially the Johnny Poppers). Leo had a great love for both of his wives, Shirley and Mildred, family and friends.

Leo is survived by his wife, Mildred of rural Parkersburg; 3 sons, Steve (Kay) Rewerts of Waterloo, Mark (Nanci) Rewerts of New Hartford, Tim Rewerts of Shell Rock; 2 daughters, Emily (Larry) Bright of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, Shelly (Jeff) Heise of Parkersburg; 4 step-sons, Jim (Pam) Oler of LaPorte City, Bob (Carla) Oler of rural Parkersburg, David Oler of Dike, Scott (Karla) Oler of Liberty, Missouri; 3 step-daughters, Carol Pies of Parkersburg, Gale (Dick) Henry of Janesville, Brenda Youngblood of Cedar Falls; 13 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Viola (Johnny) Muller of Dumont, Mary Dixon and Joan Moore both of Hansel; and one brother, Dean (Betty) Rewerts of Allison.

His parents, his first wife, Shirley, a son, David J. Rewerts, a son-in-law, David Brookman, 2 brothers, Roy and Dwight Rewerts, and one sister, Luella Eiklenborg, preceded Leo in death.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Monday, September 3, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford, with Pastor Carolyn Bittner officiating.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford. Visitation also an hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of services.
