Lucille Blunt, 91, of Shell Rock, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Shell Rock Health Care Center in Shell Rock, Iowa.

Lucille was born on August 21, 1917, the daughter of Clifton and Maude (Metzger) Hunter in Shell Rock, Iowa.

She graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1934. Lucille taught country school for 5 years in the Butler County area. On June 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Loal P. Blunt at the First Baptist Church in Shell Rock. The couple made their home in several communities before they made their permanent home in Shell Rock. Lucille and Loal owned and operated the grocery store, Loal's AG from 1962 until 1975.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Shell Rock, where she played the piano, was the church's treasurer and also taught Sunday school. Lucille loved to cook, can vegetables and always had candy available to hand out to the kids.

Survivors are her children, Adaline Peterson of Waterloo, Linda (Ron) Hoyer of Bettendorf, Jerome Blunt of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Joann Blunt of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 4 grandchildren, Matthew (Angela) Peterson, Melissa (Jim) Munro, Benjamin (Jessica) Hoyer and Jeffrey (Michelle) Blunt; 8 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Ezra and Emery Peterson, Madison and Mason Blunt, Julia and Zachary Hoyer and Baby Boulder.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Loal on February 12, 2005; two sisters, Helen Hunter and Genevieve Cave; and three brothers, Clyde, Vernon and Mervin Hunter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Alan Dicks officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be left to the family.
