Betty Jean Laube, age 74, of Clarksville, died Wednesday, May 6th, 2009, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo from complications of a stroke.

Betty was born on March 5, 1935, in Allison, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Hilda (DeBower) Fick.

She was raised in rural Allison, attended country school through the 8th grade and later graduated from the Allison High School 1953. Betty was baptized at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison on March 24th, 1935, and was confirmed there on April 2nd, 1950. On June 21st, 1956, Betty was united in marriage to Clarence Laube at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. The couple made their home in rural Clarksville where Betty spent her life helping Clarence on the farm and raising her family. Other places she worked included Lutheran Mutual Insurance, Clarksville Nursing Home, and the Shell Rock Kwik Star. Betty's enjoyments included spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events, having coffee with friends, crocheting, embroidering, quilting, and baking (especially bread). She lived for her family and impressed upon her children the value of obtaining a college degree. Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville where she was active in the church circle and served on the altar guild where she was president for several years. Betty also belonged to the Friendly Neighbor Club.

Betty's memory is honored by her husband, Clarence, of fifty-two years, four children: Sue and Al Lindaman of Plainfield, Sara and Kevin Paar of Dike, Irvin and Jennifer Laube of Traer, and Philip and Monica Laube of Holland, ten grandchildren: Jessica (Josh) Ates, Nick Lindaman, Katie and Lacey Paar, Holly (Adam) Karsjens, Mallory, Tyler, Amber, Whitney, and Tanner Laube, two great-grandchildren: Malaky and Madalynn Ates and a grandchild and great grandchild due in October, a brother, Cal (Donna) Fick of Allison, and two sisters, Lavola (Jim) Gates of Hudson and Sally (Dick) Sides of LaPorte City.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 9th, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville with Pastor David Nelson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Lowell Town Cemetery in rural Clarksville.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8th, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock where the family will greet friends from 4 until 8 P.M.

Memorials may be directed to the family and will be divided between Cedar Valley Hospice and Stroke Research at the University of Iowa.
