Jack Arnold Jamison, 71, of Shell Rock, Iowa, and formerly of California, died Monday evening, August 17, 2009, at the Waverly Health Center of natural causes.

Jack was born on January 26, 1938, in Eagle River, Wisconsin the son of Arthur and Georgia (Chapman) Jamison.

Jack attended the Waterloo School System, graduating in 1956, from East High School. Following his schooling, Jack entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Ft. Louis, Washington. In 1968, Jack was united in marriage to Rita Alverez in Mexico. Jack worked at Arlington Park Race Track in Illinois and also several racetracks in California, including Hollywood Park, where he would transport quarter horses. Jack retired in 1999 and in June of 2002, Rita died. Jack came back to Iowa in 2002 to visit and he and Barbara (Rewerts) Cain became very good friends. Jack returned to Shell Rock in 2003, where he made his home with Barb.

Jack was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. He loved his time spent with the horses and the friends he met at the racetracks. He enjoyed woodworking, watching NASCAR races, was an avid Waverly-Shell Rock Wrestling Fan, and Jack would like to go hunting (even though he was not very good at it).

Jack is survived by his companion, Barb Cain of Shell Rock, Iowa; his three sons, James and his companion, Sheri of Queen Creek, Arizona, Hector (Joanne) and Adrian of California; two daughters, Teresa and Silvia (Ed) both of California; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Terry and Duane Jamison of California; two sisters, Beverly Silva of California and Donna Allen of Missouri. Jack is also survived by Barb's son, Randy (Lisa) Cain of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Candace Cain of Chicago, Illinois, Geralyn (Michael) Stoner of Cary, Illinois; and five grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, one daughter in infancy, one grandson, Christopher, and two brothers, George Jamison and David Vaughn.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, with Pastor Paul Schaedig officiating.

Per Jack's request his body has been cremated.

The family will greet friends for an hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
