OLDENBURGER, MEIN, JANSSEN, BUSS, WALKER, UHLENHOPP

Anna Oldenburger, age 96, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Emmo and Gesina (Mein) Janssen on February 7, 1914, rural Ackley, Iowa. She received her education from the Allison School in Allison, Iowa.

On March 1, 1940, Anna was united in marriage with Bruno Oldenburger at the First Reformed Church parsonage in Aplington. They began farming in Butler County and purchased their current farm north of Parkersburg in 1964. On April 7, 2001, Anna moved from the farm, with her daughter Bev, to town in Parkersburg. Anna became a resident of the Maple Manor Village in January of 2009.

She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and liked it when they could stop in for some of her special meals. Her “specialty” was homemade buns, fried potatoes, sugar cookies, mashed potatoes with fresh green beans, and chocolate milk. While living on the farm she loved to garden and canned the produce she grew. She enjoyed playing cards, playing the organ and accordion and also loved going to Bingo and visiting with friends.

Anna died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno on April 16, 1994; a son, Ronald on June 26, 1994; six brothers, Emmo, Pete, Hilko, George, Burt and Joe; and three sisters, Hilda Janssen, Lena Walker and Sena Uhlenhopp.

Anna is survived by one daughter, Bev Oldenburger of Parkersburg, Iowa; two sons, Kenneth (Mary) Oldenburger of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Dickie (Linda) Oldenburger of Parkersburg, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Buss of Allison, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
