APLINGTON - Fred H. Winterberg, 96, of Aplington, died Thursday, July 8, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.

He was born April 19, 1914, in Pollock, N.D., son of William and Fannie Buss Winterberg. He married Helen Ehmen Jan. 10, 1946, at First Reformed Church parsonage in Aplington.

He received his education at a rural country school near his home. Mr. Winterberg served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat engineer from 1942-45 and achieved the rank of sergeant. The couple farmed in Grundy county for 33 years, near Buck Grove. He had a delivery route for Fern Creamery for many years.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, Gaylen (Patsy) of Parkersburg, Kevin ( Dee Dee) of Tulsa, Okla., Kent of Iowa Falls and Brent of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Brenda (Bryan) Schipper of Parkersburg and Gwen (Nils) Norland of Ankeny; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two sons, Keith and Dennis Winterberg; a daughter, Joyce Barron; and two sisters, Florence Euler and Gertrude Druvenga.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, both in Aplington.

Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Redman-Schwartz Home, Parkersburg, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
