SHELL ROCK - Flora Dena DeWit, 92, of Shell Rock, died Thursday, June 17, at Community Nursing Home in Clarksville.

She was born Dec. 28, 1917, in rural Clarksville, daughter of Philip and Anna Henrichs Hoodjer. She married Berend "Bennie" L. DeWit Jr. Oct. 23, 1937, in Waverly. He died in 2000.

She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1935. She taught at Butler County Rural School, Osweiler Nursing Home and the couple managed the Hilton Haven Motel in Key West, Fla. Mrs. DeWit worked in food service at Wartburg College in Waverly until retirement in 1985. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock.

Survived by: three sons, Richard (Mary Jean) DeWitt of Clarksville, Robert (Janice) DeWitt of La Porte City and Benjamin (Cathi) DeWitt of Shell Rock; two daughters, Mary (Joe) Giunta of Indian Land, S.C. and Molly (Chris) Howell of Hatch Bend, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son, Philip Dewitt; a granddaughter; four sisters, Grace Niehaus, Ann DeWitt, Tina Bruns and Phyllis Voss.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, both in Shell Rock.

Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock.

Memorial fund has been established to the Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock.
