Jerry Alan Vance, age 67, of Clarksville, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at his home in Clarksville, from complications of COPD.

He was born the son of Russell and Alma Wedeking Vance on August 25, 1942, Clarksville, Iowa. He received his education from the Clarksville Community School and graduated high school in 1960.

On September 14, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage with Janet Lee Hahn at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville. They made their home in Clarksville where they farmed and milked dairy cows until Jerry’s retirement in 1980. To this union three children, Anita, Rodney and Marcie were born. The couple were later divorced.

Jerry was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville where he also was confirmed. He enjoyed going hunting, fishing, trapping and playing cards with his friends and family. Jerry loved taking his grandsons fishing and often reminisced about the time his three year old grandson caught his own limit when they were fishing together. He went deer hunting every season since the age of sixteen and always went trapping until he no longer could walk well enough. He was an avid baseball and softball fan but especially liked to follow the girls softball team.

Jerry died Friday, June 25, 2010, surrounded by his family at home of complications of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry is survived by three children, a daughter, Anita (special friend, Dale Rousselow) Merfeld of Greene, Iowa, a son, Rodney “Bud” (Barb) Vance of Johnston, Iowa, and a daughter, Marcie (Clint) Sharp of Parkersburg, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Trent and Tyler Merfeld, Gunnar Vance, Matt, Brian and Andrew McCrea, and Sam Sharp and soon to be baby Sharp; one brother Burman Vance, Clarksville, Iowa; one sister, Elaine (Marv) Bohlen of Clarksville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, in the banquet room at Doc’s Restaurant in Clarksville.

The family will greet friends one hour before services at Doc’s. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jerry Vance.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville is in charge of arrangements.
