Funeral of E. S. Cortright

Last Saturday at 1 o’clock occurred the funeral of E. S. Cortright, at the family residence, three and one-half miles northeast of New Hartford. The funeral was in charge of L. L. Smith and the services were conducted by Mr. Bailey of Clinton. The home was filled with the friends of the family, who had come to pay a last tribute of respect to the friend who in years gone by, had been to many of those present, a most efficient help in time of trouble.

Mr. Cortright was a man that was always ready to do an act of kindness, or help in any way possible, a neighbor or friend in trouble, and in his home and with his family, his unselfish nature was always evident, and in his long last illness, that deep affection and forethought
was fully repaid, for nothing that the most tender love could suggest was left undone for him by the devoted wife and children who so sincerely mourned his death.

On the 20th of June, 1899, while on a visit at Belvidere, Ill., among old friends of former years, Mr. and Mrs. Cortright celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

The pallbearers were J. W. Seaver, C. R. Harmon, J. A. Cousins, A. Critzman, A. Perrin, J. W. Plummer.

Relatives present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Covey and Mr. George H. Covey of Belvidere, Illinois.

The internment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
