Funeral Services for Elvin Fred Rover, 87, of Greene, will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Vilmar with Pastor Mark Walker officiating.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be 5:00- 7:00 p.m, Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Elvin Fred Rover was born June 10, 1922, in Coldwater Township, Butler Co, Iowa a son of Eldo and Minnie (Becker) Rover and died Sunday, February 21, 2010, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. He received his education in the Coldwater Township Country School # 8.

He was Baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vilmar on July 2, 1922, and Confirmed on May 23, 1937 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. As an adult he returned to the Vilmar Church where he served in many positions on the Church Council.

Elvin was united in marriage to Mable Cassmann on October 26, 1947, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene.

He was inducted into the United States Army on January 6, 1945.
Following his honorable discharge on November 8, 1946, he returned to Greene to farm the family farm. Elvin did electrical work and did woodworking as a hobby. He is credited with various wood projects in the Vilmar Church before and after his retirement. In 1988 he retired from farming and the family farm was passed down to it’s fourth generation.
Elvin and his wife traveled to Texas a few years and helped build a church in Muscatine with the Mission Builders in 1989. Elvin was diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago. He continued to live on the farm until last April when the couple moved to Greene.

He is survived by his Wife, Mable; Daughters Linda (Ed) Mack of King of Prussia, PA, Lois (Dean) Kramer, of Bristow; Grandchildren: Dana (Chuck) Kissee of Chula Vista, CA, Levi (April) Kramer and Great-Grandchildren Austin, Randy and Kassidy of Bristow; Sister-in-law Eunice (Fred) Bolhuis, of Aplington; Brothers-in-law: Gordon Cassmann of Greene, Melvin Cassmann of Grundy Center; Sister-in-law Kathryn Cassmann of Greene; Step-sister-in-law Esther Mae (Harry) Rumple of Portersfield, WI; many nieces and nephews.

Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters-in-laws and one brother-in-law.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Elvin Rover Memorial Fund in care of the family at 110 South High St. Apt 4, Greene, Iowa 50636.
