Robert M. Lohr, age 89, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born July 16, 1920, the son of Herman and Kathryn Voigt Lohr in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He lived with his parents in Monroe, South Dakota, Cathay, North Dakota, Aplington, Iowa and St. Paul, Minnesota before coming to Parkersburg in July, 1937.

He received his education in the Aplington Elementary School and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1938. Robert attended ISTC for two years and was a graduate of the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science. Robert served his country in the United States Navy in World War II, serving from July 28, 1942 until November 15, 1945. He was a Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class aboard the USS Altair during the invasion of France.

Robert was united in marriage with Lorraine Helen Homan on December 2, 1944, in Boston, Massachusetts. Following his discharge from the Navy, the couple lived above the furniture store in Parkersburg where Robert was in the furniture business from 1947 thru September, 1981.

Robert was a Funeral Director over the years at J.G. Houts Funeral Home, Engelkes Funeral Home and Schwartz Funeral Homes, Inc., all in Parkersburg. He was a member of Harry Peters American Legion Post #285. Robert made his confession of faith in Christ as Savior and Lord in the Aplington Baptist Church. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Parkersburg where he taught Men’s Sunday School and served as a Deacon for many years.

In his spare time, Robert enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, hunting and reading.

Robert died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, Iowa, of complications of Mersa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Robert Arthur Lohr in 1954; one brother, Ronald Milton Lohr.

Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lorraine Lohr, Parkersburg, Iowa; three sons, James Alan Lohr, Hopkins, Minnesota; Thomas Ronald Lohr, Johnston, Iowa and Kenneth Edward Lohr, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, (319)346-1534) and continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Robert.
