Paul Knapp, 89, of Shell Rock, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Shell Rock Health Care Center in Shell Rock, Iowa.

Paul was born on May 28, 1920, the son of Carl and Kathryn (Bueter) Knapp in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He attended school in Clarksville and Shell Rock. Paul served with the US Air Force during World War II. On February 24, 1943, he was united in marriage to Grace VanLengen in Shell Rock, Iowa. The couple made their home in Cedar Falls, where Paul did carpentry work. They later moved to Shell Rock and Paul began farming and later ran a trucking company along with his wife Grace. Following Paul's retirement, he did a lot of wood cutting and work at the Riverside Cemetery.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Paul enjoyed old time country music shows, telling jokes, playing cards and had a knack for building things.

Survivors are his wife, Grace Knapp of Shell Rock, Iowa; son Dean Knapp of Shell Rock, Iowa; two grandchildren, Robyn Knapp of Shell Rock, Iowa and Chris (Shannon) Knapp of Waverly, Iowa and four great grandchildren, M'Lynn, Erica, Alecia and Brody Knapp.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol in infancy; a daughter-in-law, Pat Knapp; great grandson, Austin and two brothers, Forrest and Robert Knapp.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Christine Pauley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00 pm until 5:00 on Sunday at the church and also an hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
