Lucy Abbas, 94, of Hampton, Iowa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life Service for Lucy Abbas will be 2:00 pm Saturday, November 21st at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Geneva, Iowa, with Reverend Phil Milam officiating.

A time of visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, November 20th also at St. Peter's United Church of Christ.

Burial will be at the St. Peter's Cemetery, Geneva. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for Lucy's favorite mission projects.

The Linn's Funeral Home, 903 Cerro Gordo Avenue, Ackley, Iowa, is handling the arrangements for Lucy.

Lucy Ploeger was born July 17, 1915, near Austinville in Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Harmina [Modderman] Ploeger. She attended rural Butler County School graduating the 8th grade from Austinville Schools. On November 24, 1938, Lucy was united in Holy Matrimony to R. Leo Abbas at her parent's home, rural Ackley, Iowa. She farmed with her husband at 320 Spruce Avenue, Ackley, Iowa. The couple moved to Hampton, Iowa in 2003. Lucy enjoyed the couples yearly fishing trips to northern Canada, the family's sing-a-longs, her flowers, gardening, crocheting and especially quilting.

Lucy Abbas is survived by her children: Lena Mae [Lawrence] Winters of Hampton, Iowa, Leon [Sallie] Abbas of Cary North Carolina, Linda [Larry] Birley of Aplington, Iowa, and Carole Owen of Edmund, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren: Connie Sparks, Steven [Debra] Winters, Dee Ann [Michael] Keninger, Ryan [Monica] Winters, Alex [Gail] Abbas, Greg [Anca] Abbas, Vince [Susan] Birley, Dawn [Tony] Standera, Jennifer [Larry] Bishop, Jeff Ellingson; 16 great grandchildren: Stephanie [Curtis] Witte, Garrett [Holly] Winters, Kelli Keninger, Megan Keninger, Brent Keninger, Theresa Winters, Adam Winters, Paige Winters, Stephen Abbas, Robert Abbas, Anna Abbas, Ben Birley, Connor Birley, Anna Grace Birley, Ashley Bishop, Kelsey Bishop; two great-great grandchildren: Sophia and Alayna Winters; and one sister-in-law: Grace Ploeger.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Harmina and Jacob Ploeger; her husband R. Leo Abbas; two sisters: Jennie [Walter] Off, Harmina [Lowell] Dohlman; and 5 brothers: John [Tisha] Ploeger, Helmer Ploeger, George [Clara] Ploeger, Henry [Viola] Ploeger, Ralph [Esther] Ploeger.
