Philip Wirth

Philip Wirth was born in Rainby county, Germany, in 1832, and died in Greene Iowa, December 9th, 1902, having just reached the alloted time of man.

Mr. Wirth came to this country with his parents in 1842, settling in Ohio. He was married to Barbara Hook in Summit county, Ohio, in 1854, and moved to Blackhawk county, Iowa, the same year. After the death of his first wife he was again married in February 1868. They lived happily togethr until the death of Mrs. Wirth last March.

Four of the eight children still live to mourn the loss of a father: Royal Wirth, Mrs. Ella Foster, Mrs. Cassie Price and Fred Worth [sic].

Our brother was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and found great comfort and consolation in the study of God's word and attending his services, For several yars he has been an invalid and for some months entirely helpless, yet in spite of this pain and trial he could look forward believing in a "far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory." (p. 3)

Dumont: The remains of Philip Wirth were brought here Friday from Greene and interred in the Dumont cemtery beside his wife, who died last spring. Since that time Mr. Wirth has made his home with his dughter Mrs. Wm Price in Greene. He was about 70 years of age and has been a resident of this place for a number of years and was a member of the Methodist church. He had a stroke of paralysis a few years ago and has been almost helpless since. He leaves a daughter and two sons beside a large circle of friends who mourn his death. Funeral services were held in Greene Friday morning. (p. 4)
