Hillane resided at the Manor Nursing Home for a number of years prior to her death. She was featured as the female Resident of the Month July 1981. From their newsletter:
Hillane Weiland Leerhoff was born in a farm home along the west fork in Butler County Iowa on September 6, 1890, the oldest of 8 children. Her family moved to Minnesota when Hillane was 12 years of age. In 1920 the family returned to Iowa to a farm near Allison. During the time the family lived in Minnesota, Hillane’s father passed away and she completed her education. She helped run the farm before her marriage to Heiko Leerhoff in 1927. The Leerhoff’s farmed north of Allison for 11 years before moving into Allison. Hillane is now a widow. Two children were born to her marriage. Her son Galen lived in California and her daughter Donna lives in Wisconsin. Hillane is a member of St. James Lutheran Church and has lived at Allison Manor since September 9, 1972. she has four grandchildren and is also a great grandmother. Her husband Heiko passed away in 1969. Hillane enjoys her plants and always comes out to play bingo, and the residents and staff are impressed by her patience and good nature.
