Scot Allen Dicks, age 49, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, March 27, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

A son of Robert and Corla (Newman) Dicks, Scot was born on August 8, 1967, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell and confirmed in his faith there as well in 1981, he attended school in Newell, graduating from Newell Providence High School in 1986. He, then, continued his education at Westmar College in Le Mars where he graduated in 1990. On November 21, 1992, he married Deanna Hinkeldey at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with two sons, Seth and Bryan. Over the years, he worked for the Valero Company in Albert City.

A faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Scot attended services on a regular basis. Otherwise, apart from his career, he joined the Le Mars Toy Club, coached little league baseball, and served as a Cub Scout Master. Moreover, he enjoyed collecting farm toys, playing cards, and avidly following the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, however, he loved cheering on his boys when they played baseball. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Deanna Dicks, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sons, Seth (Emily) Dicks, of Ames, Iowa, and Bryan Dicks, of Ankeny, Iowa; his mother, Corla Dicks (Tiny Bragg), of Newell, Iowa; his brother, Jason (Lori) Dicks, of Storm Lake, Iowa; three nephews; one niece; as well as extended family members and friends.

Scot was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dicks; his grandparents: Dale and Marjorie Dicks and Harvey and Margaret Newman; and his uncle, J.D. Mahaffey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery.
