Thomas (Pete) Peterson
October 6, 1928 - February 23, 2004

Thomas Stuart Peterson, died Monday, February 23, 2004, at the Buena Vista County Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Stuart was born on a farm near Linn Grove, on October 6, 1928. He was the son of Carl Adolph and Bessie (Thomas) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Little Sioux Valley Church near Rembrandt. In 1946, he graduated from the Truesdale High School as salutatorian.

During the Korean War, he was drafted into the Army. His military service, however, never took him beyond the United States. While stationed on Long Island, New York, he attended many baseball games and Broadway plays. One of his main enjoyments was going to see Les Paul and Mary Ford on Broadway.

Pete enjoyed working with electronics. He built television sets, hi-fis, stereos, radios, and weather stations. He also did golfing, gardening, fishing and much reading.

He served on the Alta Trinity Lutheran Church council, was Sunday School Superintendent, spent time as a Trustee for the City of Alta and served several years on the Park Board and the Alta Golf and Country Club Board.

He worked for the Rystad Hardware Store and then became City Clerk of Alta. In 1964, he moved to Webster City where he was the City Clerk and also served on the Church Council. Later, he became City Administrator for Oelwein. In 1968, he took over the Runge and Schrieber Insurance Agency in Alta, a business he successfully pursued for twenty-three years.

Stuart is survived by his wife, Fran; his daughter, Sande, and her husband, Brian Rodemeyer; his granddaughter, Abby, and his grandson, Tim, all of Algona; his son, Tom, of Carlsbad, California; a brother, David, and his wife, Virginia, of Alameda, California; his brother-in-law, Willis (Buster) Castle, of Roswell, New Mexico, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Eldon, and his sister, Margaret.

Funeral services for Thomas "Pete" Peterson, 75, of Alta, were held on Wednesday, February 25, 2004, with Pastor Durwood Clauson officiating at the Baker Funeral Home in Alta with Flag presentation by the Alta VFW post #6172.
