March 2, 1919 - May 7, 2003

Esther A. Helgeson, age 84, of Albert City, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at her home.

The daughter of John and Edith (Hanson) Stanerson, Esther Arvilla Helgeson was born on March 2, 1919, in Dolliver. She was baptized and confirmed at the Palestine Lutheran Church, grew up on a farm, and graduated from high school in Dolliver. Subsequently, Esther attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

On September 30, 1939, Esther was united in marriage to John Helgeson in rural Dolliver. This union was blessed with four children: James, Julie, David and Denise. John and Esther lived in the Estherville area until 1955 when they moved to a farm near Albert City. After the death of her husband, John, in 1985, Esther moved into town.

Esther dedicated her life to raising her family and working with her husband on their farm. She was a longtime active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City.

Esther enjoyed collecting dolls and making greeting cards. Her greatest pleasure, however, came from spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother. Her strong Christian faith was an important part of her life.

Esther is survived by one son, David Helgeson, and his wife, Sharon, of Albert City; two daughters: Julie Helgeson of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Denise Fritz, and her husband, Dave, of Clear Lake; seven grandchildren: Shawn Fritz, of Berkeley, California, Steve Fritz of Namibia, Africa, Krista Fritz, of Chandler, Arizona, Melvin Helgeson, and his wife, Gretchen, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Martin Helgeson, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Philip Helgeson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Kelly Habben, and her husband, B.J., of Kingsley; seven great-grandchildren: Daryn, Parker, Caden and Shaylen Habben and Emma, Ellie and Isabella Helgeson; one brother: Frank Stanerson and his wife, Laurie, of Radcliff; three sisters: Ruth Knutson, of Estherville, Naomi Mager, and her husband, Cecil, of Newell, and Mary Bjelland, of Radcliff; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Preceding Esther in death were her parents, John and Edith Stanerson; her husband, John A. Helgeson; and her son, James A. Helgeson.

A funeral service was held on Monday, May 12, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City with Reverend David Bernhardt officiating. Interment was in the Fairfield Township Cemetery. The Sliefert - Asmus Funeral Home in Albert City was in charge of the arrangements.
