Romaine Schriber, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died September 8, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Romaine Schriber was born on May 25, 1925, to Joseph and Rose (Lansink) Schriber in Ida Grove, Iowa. He attended grade school in Ida Grove and later graduated from Galva High School in 1942.

On December 28, 1951, Romaine entered the United States Air Force where he served his country during the Korean Conflict. While in the Air Force, he taught Diesel Mechanics until he was honorably discharged on December 3, 1954.

On September 14, 1949, Romaine was united in marriage to Dorothy Kalin at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa. Romaine and Dorothy worked side by side for 49 years in many different business endeavors. In 2000, Romaine lost his best friend and the love of his life. Together they were blessed with five children: Barbara, Gary, Gregory, Mark and Michael.

Baptized and confirmed into the Roman Catholic faith, Romaine remained a life-long Catholic. He was a very active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. In addition, he was also a member of the VFW and the Farm Bureau.

Romaine worked for several companies including: Monsanto, Cargill, Arco, Crop Productions and Natures Liquid Fertilizer. He was a long-time farmer near Peterson, Iowa, until 1964. Romaine enjoyed operating his own business, Schriber Sales & Service, where he sold and serviced Dixon lawnmowers south of Storm Lake. A great teacher, he taught tractor and hunter safety courses.

Romaine enjoyed painting and engine tinkering as well as telling his friends and family stories and jokes. He loved outdoor activities, especially hunting, fishing and bird watching. Romaine treasured his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Barbara (George) D’Amore of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Gary Schriber of Gillette, Wyoming; Gregory (Leigh-Ann) Schriber of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mark (Linda) Schriber of Gillette, Wyoming; Michael (Cheryl) Schriber of Casper, Wyoming; grandchildren: Dr. Michael D’Amore; Thomas (Julianna) D’Amore; Jamie and Kelly Schriber; Alex Schriber; Janna and Kaycee Schriber; Christa and Elynn Schriber; sister, Rosamond “Kay” (Don) McKenna of Savoy, Illinois; extended family and friends.

Romaine was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Schriber; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Schriber; step-mother, Genevieve Schwaller, step-grandson, Jeremy Winebrenner.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. September 13, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. September 12, 2010, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Interment: 11:15 a.m. September 13, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa
