John Henry Grieme
July 30, 1942 - November 19, 2018

John Henry Grieme, age 76, of Alta, Iowa, died on Monday, November 19, 2018, in Sioux City, Iowa.

John, a son of Ralph and Neoma (Holtz) Grieme, was born on July 30, 1942, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized as an infant and later confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, he attended Hanover and Alta elementary schools. In 1960, he graduated from Alta High School. On February 4, 1974, John married Janet Dreyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover. Subsequently, they raised two children, William and Janelle. A lifelong member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, John, actively, participated in the church as an usher and trustee.

A member of the Alta Golf and Country Club, John enjoyed hunting, golfing, grilling, bowling, and attending sporting events in his free time. Above all, however, John loved spending time with family, especially with his three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, William “Bill” Grieme, of Schaller, Iowa, and Janelle Grieme-Zoch, of Galva, Iowa; his sister, Mary Grieme-Cox, of West Des Moines, Iowa; his nephews, Adam Cox, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jason Cox, of West Des Moines, Iowa; his grandchildren: Kevin Grieme, of Waterloo, Iowa, Stephanie (Zack) Valentine, of Dexter, Iowa, and Mercedes Dreyer, of Cedar City, Utah; his great-grandchild, Caden Grieme (son of Kevin Grieme); and his aunt, Adeline Lewis, of Moline, Illinois; as well as many cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Neoma Grieme.

Memorial services will take place Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, November 23, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in ALTA. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
