Betty Ann (Petersen) Christensen, age 99, of Sac City, Iowa, and formerly of Newell, Iowa, died on November 29, 2018, at the Park View Care Center in Sac City.

Betty, a daughter of Nels and Agnes (Andersen) Petersen, was born on October 17, 1919, on a farm in Buena Vista County just outside Newell, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, she attended Douglas No. 1 Country School through the eighth grade. Then, she completed her high school education at the Newell Consolidated School, graduating in May 1937. On March 12, 1942, she married Harry S. Christensen. Subsequently, three children were born to this union.

After working as a CNA at the Newell Good Samaritan Center for three years, she spent the next eighteen years at the Buena Vista Hospital in Storm Lake before retiring.

In 1955, Betty and Harry joined the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed, actively, participating in her church groups. In addition, she liked collecting Danish Christmas plates and spending time with her friends playing cards. She enjoyed travelling, visiting family in Denmark, and going on cruises and bus tours. But most of all, however, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her sons, Gregory (Sharon) Christensen, of Lodi, California, and Bruce (Donna Salis) Christensen, of Mallard, Iowa; her daughter, Karen (Dan Gatto) Weidauer, of Oakley, California; her grandchildren: Tonja (Peter) Erickson, of Columbia Falls, Montana, Damon (Melanie) Christensen, of Lathrop, California, Courtney Christensen, of Lodi, California, Alisha (Josh Weber), of Early, Iowa, Rachel (Randy) Murray, of Ashland, Oregon, Adam (Vanessa) Weidauer, of Sonoma, California, and Joel Weidauer, of Oakley, California; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Verna Witter, of Rosedale, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Donna Petersen, of Loveland, Colorado; and her sister and brother-in-law, Ella and Gilbert Marten, of Ames, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Christensen; her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Elva and Warren Frerichs; her brother, Virgil “Spike” Petersen; and her brother- and sister-in-law, Clifford and Evelyn Christensen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 6, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in NEWELL. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
