April 16, 1928 - April 15, 2018

Leona S. Jensen, age 89, of Newell, Iowa, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Newell.

Leona S. Struve, a daughter of Fred and Ruth (Wenzel) Struve, was born on April 16, 1928, in Kingsley, Iowa. She attended school in Quimby, Iowa. On December 25, 1949, she married Max M. Jensen at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. From December 1947 to January 1984, she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone in Storm Lake, Spencer, and Sioux City.

In her spare time, Leona enjoyed quilting, doing counted cross stitch projects, and researching family genealogy. In later years, she joined the First Congregational Church in Newell, Iowa. Without a doubt, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Leona’s memory include: her nephews: Michael (Tracy) McCory, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Daniel (Deb) Struve, of Moville, Iowa, Doyle (Dawn) Struve, of Pierson, Iowa, Kenneth Struve, of Killeen, Texas, and Jeff (Linda) Lehnhardt, of Verona, Kentucky; her nieces: Cindy (Tom) Slinger, of Pierson, Iowa, Celesta Christensen, of Normandy Park, Washington, Sally Lehnhardt, of St. Charles, Illinois, and Rhonda (Terry) Ferris, of Stafford, Virginia; her brother-in-law, Ronald McCory, of Colorado; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Struve, of Pierson, Iowa; as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Max; her parents, Fred and Ruth Struve; her brothers, Leroy and Leon Struve; her sisters: Levon Trusty, Lola Lehnhardt, and Lorraine McCory; her brothers-in-law, Paul Trusty and Clayton Lehnhardt; her sister-in-law, Sumiko Struve; her niece, Patricia Trusty; and her nephew, Tim Trusty.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
