Dale R. Wilson, age 81, of Newell, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Dale Richard Wilson, a son of Emery E. and Verna E. (Schumann) Wilson, was born on May 27, 1936, in Buena Vista County, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Newell, he, later, joined the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Rarely, did he miss a Sunday morning service.

Growing up, Dale attended school in Newell, graduating from Newell Providence in 1954. Then, he enrolled at Buena Vista College. On December 31, 1957, he married Ruth Irene Rogers in Pocahontas, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with three daughters: Lorelei, Linda, and Julie. Throughout his adult life, Dale worked for the Albert City Creamery, Laurens Dairy, Mauer and Midwest Construction, Grau Motors, Grau Implement, and Newell Implement. Dale and Irene enjoyed their homes in Newell and East Okoboji, Iowa, and Casa Grande, Arizona.

Dale loved dogs and music. He played the trumpet, trombone, piano, organ, and accordion, most of which he taught himself, having a keen ear for music. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and with a barber shop quartet. In addition, he had a love for anything with a motor, and he “wheeled and dealed” right up until his death. Moreover, he took great delight at playing practical jokes. He had many friends and never went anywhere where someone didn’t know him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Lori (Tim) Johnson, of Hartford, South Dakota, Linda (Dave) Miller, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Julie (Pat Sutter) Wilson, of Des Moines, Iowa; his grandchildren: Justin (fiancée, Alyssa Niesen) Johnson, Aaron (Aly) Johnson, Staci Johnson, Devin Miller, and Maleia (Nate) Gessner; his brother-in-law, Roger (Barb) Waggie, of Spencer, Iowa; and his niece, Kim Waggie; as well as extended family members and many friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Irene; his sister, Marjorie Waggie; and parents-in-law, Orville and Margaret Rogers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 7, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
