Donald Henry Wilde
June 1, 1939 – February 10, 2018

Donald Wilde, 78, of Burnet, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at his home north of Burnet.

Don was born on June 1, 1939, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Henry and Gladys (Lucht) Wilde. Baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith, he attended all thirteen years of schooling at Providence School in Sulphur Springs, Iowa, graduating in 1957. Then, on December 11, 1960, he married Janet Haukland in Storm Lake, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Mitchell, Michael, Marshall, Marci, and Mindy.

Don enjoyed farming, hunting, and woodworking. Moreover, he, always, looked forward to spending time with his grandsons. Although farming was his occupation, he, also, had a great love of the land. After moving to Texas in 1985, he worked at Capital Marble and Granite and then later Cold Springs Granite. In 2002, he retired from Cold Springs after seventeen years.

After retiring, he revisited his love for woodworking, developing into a skilled craftsman and producing a number of beautiful pieces of furniture treasured by family and friends alike. Don, also, crafted a number of small objects in his workshop some appearing in local craft fairs and some appearing on the Christmas trees of the grandkids as cherished handmade cedar ornaments.

Don is survived by Jan, his wife of fifty-seven years; his children: Mitch, Mike (Nikki), Marshall, Marci, and Mindy (JimBob) Thomas; his grandchildren: Cade Bindseil; Colby Fifer; and Christian, Colin, Justin, Logan, and Travis Wilde; his sister, Eileen Mandernach; and his brother-in-law, Dale (Joanne) Haukland. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gladys Wilde; his parents-in-law, Al and Mable Haukland; his brother and sister-in-law, Les (Penny) Wilde; his brother-in-law and sister, Donnie (Dorothy) Kapsch; and is brothers-in-law, Bruce Mandernach and Bob Haukland.
