RuthAnn Will, age 81, of Newell, Iowa, died on Friday, December 15, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell.

RuthAnn was born on the family farm near Peterson, Iowa, on April 24, 1936, to Omer and Marjorie (Rohrbaugh) Otten. She, later, welcomed three sisters: Janice, Carolyn, and Elaine. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then went on to Sutherland High School, graduating with the class of 1954.

On April 6, 1957, RuthAnn married Harlan Will with whom she, subsequently had two children, Darvin Dean and Danita Dawn. RuthAnn and Harlan made their home in Spencer, Iowa, before moving to Newell in the fall of 1962 where she remained for the rest of her life.

RuthAnn enjoyed her role as mother and homemaker. She raised many flower and vegetable gardens. In addition, she had a talent for canning her garden produce, cooking great meals (especially her fried chicken), and baking. Nonetheless, all who knew her saw her kindness and patience as her most pronounced qualities.

RuthAnn is survived by Harlan, her husband of sixty years; her children, Darvin (Becky) Will, of Newburgh, Indiana, and Danita (Michael) Schnell, of Newell, Iowa; her sisters, Janice Nissen, of Lake Park, Iowa, Carolyn Grothe, of Sutherland, Iowa, and Elaine (John) Weir, of Spencer, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jacob (fiancée, Nichole Winters) Schnell, of Waukee, Iowa, and Halley (Chris) Hawkins, of Kansas City, Missouri; her great grandchildren, Hayden and Cruz Hawkins; her brother and sister-in-law, Marnie and Pat Will, of Mankato, Minnesota; and her sisters-in-law, Juillene Hewitt, of Arizona, and Joan Will, of Michigan; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Marjorie Otten; her parents-in-law, Fred and Bernice Will; and her brothers-in-law, Stanley and Rodean Will; Paul Grothe; and Rich Nissen.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 18, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, December 17, 2017, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is overseeing the arrangements.
