April 1, 1936 - July 17, 2017

Mary Ruth Mangold, age 81, of Newell, Iowa, died on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.

Mary Ruth Booth, a daughter of Cloid Corbett and Gladys Belle (Miller) Booth, was born on April 1, 1936, in Schaller, Iowa. With her parents, she moved to 613 Otsego Street in Storm Lake in 1945. She, then, attended Hayes Township, West Elementary, and the South Schools of Storm Lake. Baptized on April 9, 1949, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake and confirmed there the next day on April 10, 1949, she remained a lifelong member. On November 2, 1956, she married William Mangold in Storm Lake. Together, they moved to Kansas City for a short while. A son, Paul, was born to their union.

Mary attended the Rock Valley Training School in 1969. She worked at the Lakeshore Café for five years, the Avenue Café for another five years, and the Senior Citizen Meal Site for eighteen years before she retired in 1998. In September 2001, she moved to McCord Manor in Storm Lake. After a brief stay at the assisted living facility in Alta, she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Newell in September 2005.

Mary enjoyed crocheting and embroidering, and she, always, remembered her friends and family with birthday and anniversary cards. She will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her niece, Shirley (Lynn) Patrick, of West Branch, Iowa, as well as many great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Fitzpatrick; her brother, Cloid Curtis “Buddy” Booth; her son Paul Douglass Mangold; and her nephew, Terry Negless.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 23, 201, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place for one hour before the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow on Monday, July 24, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
