Jerri Lee Long
February 3, 1950 - July 24, 2017Jerri Lee (Petersen) Long, age 67, passed away on July 24, 2017, surrounded by her family in the home her father built.
Jerri was born on February 3, 1950, to Gerald and Delores (Rousch) Petersen in Storm Lake, Iowa. She made her home in San Jose, California and Milford, Iowa, before returning to what was always “home” in Newell, Iowa. She took pride in her home town and her high school. Indeed, as member of the class of '68, she loved to attend all the school reunions during Newell Pride Days with her sisters Bobby, Lynn, and Beth. While living in Milford, she managed the American Legion Club for twenty years, serving the best prime rib and fish in The Lakes area. After returning to Newell, she worked at Walmart for thirteen years where she made many friends.
Well known for her feisty, stubborn, firecracker wit, and her caring, loving hand, people, always, knew where they stood with Jerri. She, always, looked forward to her road trips to go shopping and to have fun with her sisters and the “girls,” Melissa and Tiffany. She enjoyed rummaging around at the flea markets at The Lakes. A feline fanatic, she loved curling up on her couch while reading a book with her cat, Midget, snuggled on her lap. She counted her family heirlooms among her most treasured possessions. Jerri, deeply, loved her family and always eagerly anticipated upcoming family gatherings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jolee (Danny) Kjos, of Athol, Idaho; her grandchildren: Meaghan (Justin) Moses, also of Athol, Idaho, Dillon Grafton (Raeane Trejo), of Spokane, Washington, and Justin Kjos, (Jessica Davis) of Conrad, Montana; her great grandchildren, Dayton Moses and Addison Grafton; her step mother, Marylyn Petersen, of Wahpeton, Iowa; her half-sister, Michelle (Brian) Coonrod, of La Center, Washington; her half-brother, John Survis, of Austin, Texas; her step sister, Beth (Kent) Wolcott, of Wahpeton, Iowa; and her brother-in-law, Jon Winslow; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews including her “girls” Melissa Snyder and Tiffany Stern.
Jerri was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Petersen; her mother, Delores Newbury; her step dad, Norman Newbury; her sisters: Bobby Winslow and Lynn Hogrefe; her brother-in-law, Norm Hogrefe; and an infant niece, Wendy Hogrefe.
