David Harold Clausen
May 28, 1944 ~ January 14, 2017Surrounded by his loving family after a twelve-year battle with cancer, David Harold Clausen, age 72, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at his home in Albert City.
A son of Oscar and Lorraine (Boettcher) Clausen, David was born on May 28, 1944, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized as an infant and later confirmed, David attended school in Albert City, graduating from Albert City Truesdale High School in 1962. On June 14, 1999, David married Judy Lenderink in Orange City, Iowa. Blended into a family with this union were Melissa, Tracey, Dawn, Joel, Nancy, and Kathy.
David worked in Albert City at Clausen’s Sinclair Service Station with his dad, Oscar, before taking over the family business. In addition, he worked for many years for the United States Postal Service. A member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City and an EMT, he served with the Albert City Fire Department for many years as well.
An avid gardener, David loved to ride his mower. He enjoyed traveling the United States and going on cruises with his wife, Judy. Because he treasured his family, he, especially, loved visiting his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, he loved playing cards, Farkel, and especially Rummikub with family members. Moreover, he liked doing woodworking and auto mechanics projects with his son, Joel
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy Clausen, of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Melissa Cerda, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Dawn (Toney) Betsill, of McDonough, Georgia, Tracey (Peter) Denney, of Clinton, Oklahoma, Joel Clausen (special friend, Megan), of Albert City, Iowa, Nancy (Chris) Brown, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Kathy Parker (special friend, Kenny), of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: J.R., Savannah, and Toney Betsill III; Justin and Mercedes Brown; Bianca, Eric, Haillee, and Hannah Cerda; and Dustin and Jason Denney; four great grandchildren; his brother, Kent (Deb) Clausen, of Albert City, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Brian (Dyan) Lenderink, of Sheldon, Iowa; his sisters-in-law, Lynne (John) Hubers, of Orange City, Iowa, and Mary Beth (Jerry) Reuves, of Orange City, Iowa; and his father- and mother-in-law, Don and Ruth Lenderink, also of Orange City, Iowa; as well as nieces; nephews; cousins; and a garden of friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Lorraine Clausen, and his brothers, Jim and Tom Clausen; as well as by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Albert City. Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in David's name to Kindred Hospice, of Carroll, Abben Cancer Center, of Spencer, or Hope Lodge of Rochester, Minnesota. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is overseeing the arrangements.
