Sara J. (Goodenow) Blum, age 53, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, January 6, 2017, at her home in Storm Lake.

A daughter of John and Karen (Kolbe) Goodenow, Sara was born on March 6, 1963, in Carroll, Iowa. Sara attended Wall Lake Community Schools where she graduated in 1981. Then, she continued her education at Buena Vista University where she earned a degree in finance. On July 7, 1984, Sara married Michael F. Blum in Wall Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, John and Katie.

A huge sports fan, Sara, seldom, missed a sporting event involving John or Katie. In addition, a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan, she followed their games closely. In her spare time, she volunteered for many school related boards and committees while her kids were attending school. A friend to many, she never had an enemy. A devoted, loving wife and a caring mother, she, always, had a smile on her face. Indeed, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Michael Blum, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her son, John Blum, of Englewood, Colorado; her daughter, Katie (Nolan) Cone, of Alta, Iowa; her parents, John and Karen Goodenow, of Okoboji, Iowa, her brother, Steve (Michele) Goodenow, also of Okoboji, Iowa; her sisters-in-law, Brenda (Jim) Kropf, of Wall Lake, Iowa, Becky (Tom) Lockhart, of Sydney, Iowa, and Kris (Dave) Schonrock, of Sioux City, Iowa; and her brothers-in-law, Gene (Steph) Blum, of Aurora, Colorado, and Dan (Beth) Blum, of Wall Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends. Sara was preceded in death by her father- and mother-in-law, Francis and Roma Jean Blum; and a brother-in-law, Bruce Blum.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at a later date. Visitation will take place Monday, January 9, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sara's name to the oncology department at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
