April 10, 1929 - January 8, 2017Harold Vernon Bibler, age 87, of Alta, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at his home in rural Alta.
A son of Clarence and Bessie (Mason) Bibler, Harold was born on April 10, 1929, in rural Cherokee, Iowa. He attended country school in O’Brien County, Iowa, and later graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1948. In January of 1952, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953. On August 12, 1956, Harold married to Irene Guthridge at the Riverside Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: Dan, Kris, Rick, Cindy, and Becky.
A member of the Buena Vista Cattlemen’s Association, the Buena Vista Pork Producers, and the Farm Bureau, Harold had a life-long passion for farming. He devoted countless hours to the land and his livestock. In return, he instilled a strong work ethic in his children and grandchildren. A member of the Alta VFW Post #6172 and the Sioux Rapids American Legion Post #394, he felt a great sense of pride in his later years participating in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He loved seeing all the memorials and landmarks.
Harold enjoyed bowling, playing cards, telling jokes, and listening to country music. Most of all, however, he treasured his family above all else. Indeed, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and supporting them at their events. He will, always, be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
