August 3, 1929 - December 1, 2016Curtis L. Moritz, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.
Curtis Leo Moritz, a son of Andrew and Margaret Mathilda (Grienke) Moritz, was born on August 3, 1929, in Rock Island, Illinois. Baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, he, also, received his first communion there and remained a lifelong member. Growing up, he attended school at St. Mary’s, graduating in 1949.
On September 18, 1960, Curt married Lois Sorenson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Timothy, Steve, Lori, and Scott. For over forty years, he worked as a typesetter for the Pilot Tribune in Storm Lake, eventually becoming production foreman. He, also, enjoyed bartending at the Northside Tap, which later became Larry’s Tap. In addition, he joined the Storm Lake Fire Department and the Knights of Columbus.
In his spare time, Curt enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, and woodworking. He loved building birdhouses and watching the birds out of his window at the manor. He had a passion for gardening and took to tending a small garden at the manor. An avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan, he relished watching their games on television. Moreover, he valued his family and treasured the time he could spend with them. Without a doubt, he will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Tim (Cindy) and Steve (Tami) Moritz, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Lori (Mike) Sippel, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Scott Moritz (Jerry Brown); his grandchildren: Erica (Eric) Loerts, Sarah (Mark) Schau, Christa (Matt) Nitchals, Cassie (Chet) Hartwell, Alison (Ron) Neurauter, and Mary Kate, Julia, and Rebecca Sippel; his step grandchild, Keri Kjartanson; his great grandchildren: Alex, Sam, and Zach Loerts; Gavin and Maya Schau; Braxton Hartwell; Alice Nitchals; and Ronnie Neurauter; his step great grandchildren: Donnie, Nick, and Allie Kjartanson; his brother, Robert Moritz, of Boone, Iowa; and his sisters: Darlene (Ray) Snyder, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Nancy Peters (Fred Hall), of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins; extended family members, and friends. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Margaret Moritz; and his wife, Lois Sorenson Moritz.
A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, December 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, December 4, 2016, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with a time of sharing at 3:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
