Mary Ann Steffen, age 69, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mary Ann Hausman, a daughter of Forrest “Dutch” and Iona (Huseman) Hausman, was born on January 24, 1947 in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and confirmed there later as well, she, also, attended school in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1965.

On December 18, 1976, Mary Ann married William “Bill” Steffen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they raised one son, Peter.

Mary Ann worked for Lairds Fashion Clothing Store in Storm Lake as well as Graens Clothing Store. In addition, she enjoyed working side by side with her son, Peter, at the Pantry in Storm Lake before she retired. For 40 years, she, along with her family, ran the food stand at the Buena Vista County Fair.

In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and playing cards, especially 500, and socializing and enjoying a cup of coffee with her friends. Most importantly, however, she valued her family and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. Watching her granddaughters grow up and attending their activities marked a highpoint in her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bill Steffen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her son, Pete DePuma (Vikki Robertson), of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her granddaughters, Emily, Grace, and Ellie DePuma; countless cousins; aunts; uncles; extended family members, and many friends as well as her dog, Miko, that she adored.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, “Dutch” and Iona Hausman, and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Tuesday, September 27, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
