November 19, 1926 - August 26, 2016Orville Martin Paulsen, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, August 26, 2016, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Orville, a son of Paul and Marie (Hansen) Paulsen, was born on November 19, 1926, in rural Alta, Iowa. Growing up, he attended school in Newell where he graduated with the Class of 1945. On June 1, 1947, he married Doris Strand in Depew, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children, Judi, Andrew, and Peggy. A member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, he, also, belonged to the Kiwanis Beavers and the Toastmaster’s Club.
An entrepreneur, Orville had an interest in learning and starting new businesses. He spent a lot of time on the computer. The businesses that he put together included: Paeper & Paulsen Trucking, Speed Wash Laundry & Dry Cleaning; Fabric Care Center; Scorpion Lounge; Sea Hut; House of Carpets; Home Center; and Paulsen Steak House and Lounge.
In his spare time, Orville enjoyed building Bradley, a kit car. He loved traveling, playing cards, going to casinos and eating popcorn. He, also, had an interest in flying. In addition, he had a unique sense of humor and never met a stranger. Most of all, however, he treasured the time he was able to spend time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Doris D. Paulsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Judi (Larry) Jaggie, of Cherokee, Iowa, Andy (Ruth) Paulsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Peggy Johnson, of Topeka, Kansas; his grandchildren: Staci Holmstrom, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Chris (Zeba) Paulsen, of LeMars, Iowa, Anna (Joey) Speers, of Alta, Iowa, and Scott (Julie) and Ryan (Tabitha) Johnson, of Topeka, Kansas; and his great grandchildren: Andrew, Kyleigh, Morgan, Travis, and Zachary Johnson; Olivia Paulsen; Landen and Halle Speers; and Calista Russo; as well as extended family members and friends.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marie Paulsen; an infant brother, Gerner Christian Paulsen; a sister-in-law, Altabel Strand; a son-in-law, Kenneth Johnson; and a great granddaughter, Emma Grace Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Monday, August 29, 2016, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Memorials may be made in Orville's name to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
