December 20, 1944 - March 13, 2016

Rodney Allen Hatlen, age 71, of Rembrandt, Iowa, died on March 13, 2016, at his home.

A son of Conrad and Dorothy (Dierks) Hatlen, Rodney was born on December 20, 1944, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa,. Baptized as an infant and later confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, he attended school in Rembrandt, graduating in 1963. He, then, furthered his education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.

On January 11, 1964, Rodney married Linda Louise Struve at the Methodist Church in Rembrandt. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children, Teresa Lynn “Terri,” Erica Lynn, and Trent Roderick.

Through the years, Rodney served on the Rembrandt Community School Board of Education, as a trustee at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Rembrandt, and as a Scott County Trustee.

Rodney enjoyed farming, fishing, and traveling on family vacations as well as on getaways with his wife, Linda. He, also, liked visiting casinos, buying lottery tickets, taking rides with his faithful companion, “Benjo,” and spending time with a lifelong friend, Rich “Cat Power” Obman. He, truly, loved being with family, especially with his granddaughter, Adrian, at the cabin on Lake Osakis, Minnesota. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of fifty-two years, Linda Hatlen, of Rembrandt, Iowa; his children, Teresa “Terri” (Myron) Stanley, of Rembrandt, Iowa, and Trent Hatlen, also of Rembrandt, Iowa; and his granddaughter, Adrian Irene Hatlen, of Rembrandt, Iowa; as well as extended family members, and many friends.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Dorothy Hatlen; his sister, Connie Kay Voss; his daughter, Erica Lynn Hatlen; his brother-in-law, Gerald Adams; and his mother- and father-in-law, Leona and Bob Struve.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. Burial will follow in the Little Sioux Valley Cemetery in Rembrandt. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 15, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice or to People for Pets in Spencer, Iowa.
