He received his education at Sioux Rapids Consolidated School, graduating in 1945. In April 1945, he enlisted in the United Sates Navy. After retiring, Don and Fran moved to Spencer where they made their home for many years. For several years, they both enjoyed wintering in Arizona. Recently, however, Don moved to Storm Lake to be near his family.

A member of the First United Church in Sioux Rapids, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion Post #394, the Lions Club, and the Kiwanis, Don, truly, promoted and supported his community.

An avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan, Don enjoyed watching their games with friends and family. A member of Little Sioux Golf and Country Club for many years, he, also, enjoyed golfing.
