Elaine Eaton, a daughter of Wayne and Laura (Hansen) Eaton, was born on April 26, 1919, at the family farm home near Ruthven, Iowa. She had one brother, Richard Eaton, who died in 1979.
Baptized on April 29, 1928, at the Methodist Church in Ruthven, Elaine attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Ruthven High School in 1936. Then, she enrolled in a business school in Omaha, Nebraska, where she met Wayne Swanson. They married on March 31, 1938, in Papillion, Nebraska. Subsequently, they became the parents of three children: Peggy, David, and Alvin.
She and Wayne were members of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake where Elaine enjoyed quilting, circle meetings, other activities, and friendships. A Cub Scout leader in the 1950s, she, later, helped with ESL classes in the Storm Lake school system.
Elaine was employed at the Allis Chalmers business office in Omaha for a short time before accepting a job at the Farm Bureau office in Storm Lake. In addition, she worked at the Buena Vista County Auditor’s office for ten years and then spent another ten years at Hunzelman Putzier and Company, Accountants, in Storm Lake.
Elaine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and decorative painting. She, also, liked to cook and bake.
Elaine is survived by her three children: Peggy Miller, of Storm Lake, Iowa, David (Joan) Swanson, of Topeka, Kansas, and Alvin Swanson, also of Storm Lake, Iowa. Wayne, her husband, preceded her in death in 2004.
