Richard M. Sennert, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Richard Merle Sennert, a son of Nicholas Ernest and Elda Lucena (Hoelscher) Sennert, was born on April 23, 1924, on the family farm near Albert City, Iowa.

Baptized at the Methodist Church in Rembrandt, Iowa, on June 14, 1931, Richard attended Lincoln-Lee Consolidated School, graduating in 1942.

Having joined the United States Navy in 1944, he proudly served his country during World War II. Honorably discharged in 1946, he came home to farm.

On June 4, 1950, Richard married Marilene Jesse at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: the twins, Randal and Ronald, in 1951, and David, in 1953.

Currently a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta, Richard had served previously as an elder for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cherokee and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta, President of the Linn Grove Farmers Coop Elevator Board, and a board member of the Boone Valley Processors of Eagle Grove.

Richard was an eternal optimist. He enjoyed meeting friends at his "coffee shop," bowling, playing poker, dancing, reading books, and watching Western movies. Most of all, however, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Moreover, he tried to live life everyday according to God’s word.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Randal (Donna) Sennert, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Ronald (Barbara) Sennert, of Linn Grove, Iowa, and David (Rita) Sennert, of Pocahontas, Iowa; his grandchildren: John Sennert, of Omaha, Nebraska, Nick (Mary) Sennert, of Waterloo, Iowa, Karen (Matt) Higgins, of Andover, Minnesota, Amy (Randall) Kaufmann, of Lenexa, Kansas, Christina Sennert, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Kate Sennert, of Roland, Iowa; his great grandchildren: Thomas and Taylor Higgins, Cade and Nash Kaufmann, and Luke Sennert; and his sisters-in-law, Maude Mae Sennert and Sheila Jesse, both of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilene “Jane”; his sister, Wilma (John) Ackerman; and his brothers: Lester (Delores), Carl, and Neal (Phyllis) Sennert.

A funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta. Burial will follow in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Visitation will take place Monday, December 28, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
