Michael Scott Bedel
September 16, 1952 - October 27, 2015

On the morning of October 27, 2015, Michael Scott Bedel passed from this life to his new life in Heaven.

He was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, on September 16, 1952, to Gontran and Marian Bedel. As a Christian baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, he attended first Sacred Heart School in Early, Iowa, and after his family moved to Storm Lake, St. Mary’s Catholic School and lastly Storm Lake Community Schools.

For many years, Michael (Mike) worked at The Red Barn and Genesis Development where he became their unofficial greeter since he never “met a stranger.” Gregarious, inquisitive, and a friend to all, he, especially, enjoyed chatting with the many visitors at Genesis. A perennial Chicago Cubs and University of Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he sported their logos on his attire and in his room décor. Needless to say, he relished watching their games on television.

The Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center served as Mike’s home for the past few years where he developed many friendships among the staff and residents. Ever eager to help when he could, he enjoyed strolling the halls looking for someone needing his assistance.

Forever in their hearts, Mike leaves behind his brothers, Tony, Tim, Dan, and Pat, of Storm Lake; his sister-in-law, Marilee, also of Storm Lake; his niece, Elizabeth, of Kansas City, Missouri; and his nephews, Anthony, of Los Angeles, California, and Jonathan, of San Diego, California; as well as extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gontran and Marian, and his nephew, Adam.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 2, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the beginning of service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
