Ruth Ann Tillman
October 28, 1920 - September 13, 2015

Ruth Ann Tillman, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Ruth Ann Janssen, a daughter of John and Nellie (Rohde) Janssen, was born on October 28, 1920, in Nemaha, Iowa. She attended school in Nemaha, and graduated from Nemaha High School.

On September 17, 1944, Ruth Ann married Virgil William Tillman at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha. Subsequently, they were blessed with two daughters, Judy and Joleen.

For many years, Ruth Ann worked as a sales associate at JC Penney. In addition, she served as the Clerk of Elections for twenty-five years.

Ruth Ann and Virgil spent many years wintering in Arizona. In their younger years, they spent many nights dancing at the Cobblestone and the Lakewood Ballroom.

A member of Grace Lutheran Church, Ruth Ann and Virgil had both joined as charter members. Indeed, she had served as the President of the Ladies Aid Society and held offices in the LWML.

In her spare time, Ruth Ann enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, birdwatching, and playing bridge. Very talented when it came to crafting, she, especially, enjoyed card making. Most of all, however, Ruth Ann was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Judy (Randall) Demers, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Joleen (Ray) Dentlinger, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Amy (Jeff) Hinners, of Ankeny, Iowa, Todd (Tina) Davenport, of Coralville, Iowa, Lisa (Jamie) White, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Matthew (Carrie) Dentlinger, of Marathon, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Mitch and Paige Hinners, Emma and Jack Davenport, Pricilla (Edgar) Sanchez, and Kira Hughes; her sister, Elaine (Bernard) Meyer, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her sisters-in-law: Sandra Janssen, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Mary Margaret Wolterman, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil; and her brothers, Roland and Clark Janssen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Tuesday, September 15, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
