Ronald Buchholz
June 18, 1933 - September 7, 2015

Ronald Buchholz, age 82, of Newell, Iowa, died on Monday, September 7, 2015, at his home in rural Newell.

A son of Ernest and Martha (Bolte) Buchholz, Ronnie was born on June 18, 1933, in Storm Lake, Iowa. As an infant, he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where he was later confirmed and remained a lifelong member.

Growing up, Ronnie attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and then graduated from Albert City High School in 1951. On August 4, 1963, he married Janet C. Halverson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with two daughters, Nancy and Jorja.

Ronnie and Janet loved playing in a card club together. Ronnie, also, liked playing dart ball. Above all, however, he had a passion for his farm and livestock. He was very sharp with math and loved watching sports. During the last few years, he enjoyed golfing. In addition, he loved visiting with people, and often said he had never met a stranger.

When Janet became afflicted with health problems, Ronnie lovingly and faithfully cared for her in their home. Regrettably, her illness forced her into the Methodist Manor Retirement Community where Ronnie became a daily fixture. There, he made many friends with the other residents and staff. Before she passed, Ronnie and Janet were blessed to celebrate forty-eight wedded years together.

Ronnie loved his role as Grandpa, and he treasured the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren, his pride and joy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Nancy (Allan) Janss. of Johnston, Iowa, and Jorja (Brad) Gibbins, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: Aubrey and Evan Janss, of Johnston, Iowa, and Chelsey and Nicole Gibbins, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his brother, Sieg Buchholz, of Osage Beach, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Joelle McIlroy, of Alliance, Ohio; his nieces, Kathie Buchholz and Dawn (Mark) Tamboli; and his nephews, Mark Buchholz and Andy McIlroy; as well as extended family members and many friends.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet; his sister, Waltraut Buchholz; his sister-in-law, Norma Buchholz; his brother-in-law, Robert McIlroy; and his parents-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, September 10, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
