Doris M. (Magnuson) Tierney, age 87, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, formerly of Alta, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the Bryan Medical Center West of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Doris Tierney was born in Cherokee, Iowa, on November 12, 1927, to Carl and Jennie Magnuson. She attended school in Alta, graduating in 1945. Next, she enrolled at Samuel’s Beauty School in Sioux City, Iowa. There, she met George Bekish, whom she married on June 14, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. They had four children Linda, Carolyn, Jean, and Bill.

Doris and George lived in Sioux City for a short time before moving to Aurelia where Doris opened her own beauty shop. In 1963, they moved to Denison, Iowa, where Doris worked for JC Penney’s until 1966. She, then, worked in an attorney’s office as a secretary. While in Denison, Doris was active in Eastern Star and in 1969 held the office of Worthy Matron.

On November 24, 1972, Doris married Leonard Tierney in Denison, Iowa, and shortly afterward they moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa, where she resided until July, 2014, when she moved to Sumner Place in Lincoln, Nebraska, to be closer to family.

An active member of the Bethany Lutheran church in Iowa Falls, a fifty-year member of the Eastern Star, and an avid reader up until the time of her death, Doris enjoyed golf as well and spent many winters in Tucson, Arizona, so she could play the year around. She, also, enjoyed sewing, playing bridge, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding Doris in death were her parents, Carl and Jennie Magnuson; her husbands, George Bekish and Leonard Tierney; one infant grandchild; and her brother, Robert Magnuson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Linda Walker (Jack), of Millville, New Jersey, Carolyn Weaver (Russell), of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeanie Bekish, of Shaker Hts., Ohio, and Bill Bekish (MaryAnn), of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren, Gerad Walker, Rachelle Carman (Ted), Ashlin Gasiorowski (KayLynne), Amanda Wortman (Anthony), Stephen Bekish (Natalie Hald, fiancée), Corey Bekish (Jen), Stasha Himelic (Mark), Amber Reinking, Brook Reinking (Gia), and Natasha Reinking; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law; Ruby Magnuson; as well as other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015, at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. Jane B. Johnston officiating. Burial will be at the Scandinavian Cemetery of Alta. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
