Mildred G. “Millie” Waddell
November 4, 1918 - July 15, 2015

Mildred G. “Millie” Waddell, 96, of Storm Lake, formerly of Alta, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake where she had been a resident since April 6, 2010.

Mildred Genevieve Speulda, a daughter of Louis and Anna (Trautt) Speulda, was born on November 4th, 1918, at Akron, Iowa. She received her education in Wayne, Nebraska, graduating in 1935. On November 18, 1955, Millie married Lyle Lee Waddell in Luverne, Minnesota. Over the years, she worked at the Cobblestone, for DeKalb, and at the Depot Lounge as well as babysitting for families in Alta before retiring in 1990. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Alta Ladies VFW Auxiliary #6172, and a past president of the AmVets Auxiliary, she enjoyed golf, bowling, canning, and cooking.

Preceding Mllie in death were her parents; her first husband, Joe Bateman; her second husband, Lyle Waddell, on January 21, 2005; one brother, Bob Speulda; one sister, June Schoby; one son-in-law, Rex Kent; one great-grandson, Aaron Michael Waddell; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Bursick and Fred Schoby.

Survivors include her four children; Susan Freese, of Des Moines, Genevieve Kent, of Mesa, Arizona, Richard, and his wife, Kathy Bateman, of Paonia, Colorado, and Carl, and his wife, Bobbie Waddell, of Spencer; fourteen grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd, and his wife, Ellie Speulda, of Candler, North Carolina; one sister, Norma Bursick, of Sioux City, and a special family member, Dee Waddell Meyer; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services for Millie Waddell will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta with Pastor Jane Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Alta. Visitation will begin one hour before the service at the church. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alta Ladies VFW Auxiliary #6172 or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
