Lois E. Olson, age 91, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 23, 2014, at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Lois Ellen Smith, a daughter of George and Estella (Scott) Smith, was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on November 22, 1923. She lived her youth in Sioux Rapids, graduating from the Sioux Rapids High School in 1941.

On February 4, 1946, Lois married Arthur Olson in Spencer, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two daughters: Delores and Mariellen. Lois and Art spent their married life in Sioux Rapids. Performing various types of tasks, Lois worked in the newspaper business, not just in Sioux Rapids but in Spencer and Storm Lake as well. Following Art’s death, she, also, worked part-time at Simonsen’s Manufacturing.

Lois is lovingly remembered by her family which includes her two daughters: Delores (Francis) Clark, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Mariellen (Erik) Mosbo, of Rembrandt, Iowa; her granddaughter, Michelle (Dan) Schnetzer; and four great grandchildren: T. J., Madison, Kenzie, and Embry Schnetzer; as well as by other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Clifford and Everett Smith; and two sisters: Hildred Mangold and Evelyn Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sioux Rapids Baptist Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation with the family present will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
