Erma Christensen
February 17, 1929 - November 19, 2014Erma Christensen, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Countryside Senior Living in Sioux City, Iowa.
Erma Leone Kracht was born to George C. and Lulu Rosina Marie Tigges Kracht on February 17, 1929. She grew up in Peterson, Iowa. Baptized at St. John’s UCC in rural, Peterson, where she remained a longtime member, she graduated from Brooke High School in Peterson.
On June 4, 1948, Erma married Calvin C. Christensen at St. John’s UCC Church in rural Peterson. To this union, five children were born: Robert Darrell, Calvin Duane, Candace Elaine, Darwin Dean, and Cheryl Jean. In 1959, the family moved to Storm Lake.
An active member of the B.P.W. for thirty-two years and a hospital volunteer for twenty-four years, Erma worked for Dr. Robert Malliard for twenty years. She enjoyed bowling from 1961 to 2008. In addition, Erma and Calvin were long time members of the Elks Club.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Calvin “Dewey” (Becky) Christensen, of Sioux City, Iowa, Candace Mason, of Riverton, Wyoming, and Cheryl (Bill) Struve, of Noblesville, Indiana; her grandchildren: Cory (Shelly) and Wendy Christensen; Matt (Amy) and Misty Mason; Hope Scott; Heath (Cherie) and Holly Struve; and Jessica (Ben) Watson; her great grandchildren: Crew, Nash, and Bryan Christensen; Addison Mason; Caleb Sassman; Devon, Kylee, and Ryan Scott; Hannah, Nathan, Zachary Struve; and Anniston and Madden Watson; her brothers: Herb (Iva Mae) and Ronnie Kracht; and his sisters, Jean Saunders and Luella Reed; as well as extended family members and friends.
Preceding Erma in death are her parents; her husband, Calvin; two sons, Robert Darrell and Darwin Dean Christensen; her brother, Robert Kracht; her sisters, Marjorie Murphy, Janet Hoover, and Arlene Brown; her son-in-law, Marty Mason; and her brothers-in-law, Bruce Saunders and Jim Reed.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014, at St. John's Church in rural Peterson, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
