Mildred B. Anderson, age 96, of Spencer, Iowa, and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Avera Holy Family in Estherville, Iowa.

Mildred Bertha Knudtson was born on July 6, 1918, in Rembrandt, Iowa, a daughter of Wallace and Lena (Johnson) Knudtson. Baptized and confirmed at the Little Sioux Valley Church in Rembrandt, she attended school in Rembrandt.

On February 10, 1938, Mildred married Herman Anderson at her parents’ home in Rembrandt. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Hattie Lee, Ronald, Pete, and Dennis. Together, they made their home in the Linn Grove area where they farmed for many years before moving to New Mexico in 1959. In 2013, Mildred moved back to Iowa.

Mildred was a servant of the Lord and enjoyed attending Lutheran Church services on Sunday mornings wherever she might have been. She, also, treasured Sunday dinners with her family for as long as she could remember.

Mildred and Herman enjoyed traveling together, especially the trips they took to Europe and Alaska. She spent much of her spare time in the kitchen cooking or baking something delicious. Nonetheless, she, also, enjoyed going out to eat and visiting with friends. A very kind and devoted wife and mother, she took care of Herman for four years following a stroke that he suffered. She treasured spending time with her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Hattie Lee (Gary) Nelson, of Spencer, Iowa, Ronald Anderson, of Fort Worth, Texas, Pete (Cheryl) Anderson, of Flora Vista, New Mexico, and Dennis (Victoria) Anderson, of Aztec, New Mexico; her grandchildren: David, Richard, Steven (Bobbi), Tyler (Sophia), and Wade Anderson; Stephanie (Eric) Blasing; Lori (Jeff) Edwardson; Kevin and Randy (Grace) Nelson; and Cinda (Danny) Sackett; nineteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Gladys Anderson, of Lindsborg, Kansas; as well as several nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family members; and friends.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman, in 1998; five sisters: Effie Risvold, Theressa Zerbe, Josie Samuelson, Clara Matthews, and Edna Knudtson; six brothers: Leonard, Orville, Floyd, Arthur, Ernest, and Irving Knudtson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Visitation will take place Tuesday, November 11, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
