Virginia Haahr, daughter of Viggo and Sena (Hansen) Haahr, was born on January 28, 1922, on the family farm north of Alta. Raised on that farm, she attended and graduated from Highview High School in 1939. On June 1, 1941, she married Kenneth Meyer. To this union, three children were born, Don, David, and Janet. She and Ken farmed north of Alta for thirty-four years before retiring and moving to Alta in 1978.

Virginia was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alta where she belonged to the Martha Circle. She was a longtime member of both the Country Ramblers Club and a charter member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Alta V.F.W. Post #6172. Virginia enjoyed reading, baking, raising flowers, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren and their families.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Stan Haahr.

Those grateful for having shared her life include her three children, Don (Betty) Meyer, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, David (Cindy) Meyer, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Janet (Jay) Hummel, of Yankton, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Lisa Lange, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Michael (Tracy) Meyer, also of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ross (Katy) Meyer, of Iowa City, Iowa, Cass (Matt) Loesche, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Tyler and Andrew Hummel, both of Yankton, South Dakota; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Katherine Kolb; Kaden and Maddox Loesche; and Brynlee, Christian, and Emery Meyer; and her sisters-in-law, Francis Meyer, of Pharr, Texas, LaVerna Meyer, of Wall Lake, Iowa, and Billie Haahr, of Tuscan, Arizona; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home, Alta, Iowa, Monday, August 18th, 2014, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
Funeral: First Presbyterian Church, Alta, Iowa, Tuesday, August 19th, 2014, at 10:00am.
Burial: Elk Township Cemetery, Alta, Iowa, Tuesday, August 19th, 2014.
